Nested loops

A story you open and do not finish, so that everything told inside it — including the commands — is filed as belonging to that story.

Nested loops occupy working memory. The listener tracks ‘what happens to the man in February’ and stops tracking ‘what is being done to me.’ That is not a trick for its own sake. It moves the critical faculty onto a story, so the replacement behavior can be tried on in someone else’s body first. Emotion builds around a landscape they chose to enter. By the time a loop closes, they have already rehearsed the new move.

They get a change they did not have to agree to in advance. They get a behavior installed as a scene they can remember, not a slogan they can argue. They get one thread that keeps teaching after you stop talking. They get to attach to a story that is not a confession, so dignity stays intact.

Open largest → open next → put scenes and commands in the middle → close out of order (or return to the first sensory place) → leave one thread running.

The Hundredth Floor

Nothing is required. Movement first, direction second. Thin is a faculty, not a wound-as-identity. Down is induction; up is installation. A closed pad is timing, not failure. Discipline is architecture, not willpower.

What the openings do
Openings are sensory, slow, and already true: bark against the spine, green light, a desk that stops at 40, first breath of air that burns. The listener is paced into a place they can feel, then led.
What the closures do
The fish is closed during descent so ‘nothing required’ is already true before the office is named. Sela closes out of order so movement is in the body before the lily is discussed. Pond, two waters, truisms, thin-place, Margaret all harvest at the lily. The closed pad is the climax of Part Two.
Why this close-order
Erickson does not scramble for confusion’s sake. He returns to the log. Closing the fish early lets effort be put down. Closing Sela out of order puts walking in before meaning. The lily is home. The pad is the last image so unopened cannot be filed as failed.
What it does to the reader
They are inducted by description, not by a handshake. By the time the office is mentioned they are already six feet down. The closed pad follows them as a permission: some faculties stay shut on purpose and remain instruments.

Openings — press to hear them

Each button is a loop opening. Press it to see the opening, the timing, the emotion, the conscious and unconscious messages, the intensity, why it comes first or later, what opens after it, and how it closes — or does not.

Overwhelm stops producing freeze. Movement first, direction second. The load-bearing install of all three scripts.

Thin as Faculty

The hurt was real, undeserved, never a gift. What breaks heals thin. Thin is how you feel what thick cannot. Instrument, not injury.
