Thin / scar / quartz

Metaphor: A scar that healed thin, a quartz vein, a faculty you paid for. Not thick. Not a gift. An instrument.
To the person: The part that wants the wound to have been worth it, or to have never happened — and cannot bear the third filing.
How it generates change: Keep: it was real, undeserved, should not have happened. Change: what broke healed thin, and thin feels through walls. Carry it as instrument, never as identity-as-injury.
